Artists: Now you got the Deal...Now What?

Alright so now you and your group is excited. You have signed the new contract and your waiting on the Label to give you this Hugeadvance so you can go out and buy that new chain. Guess what? labels arent doing that shit anymore, they are not wasting money on new artists like that. Gone are the days where you get a 2 million dollar advance and 4 Albums, ect. Now they want to see what you are going to bring to the table before they "Upstream" you. Remember that word....Upstream.

Now you have a few promotional dollars in your independent budget and you feel that it is not necessary to use....Yeah right. How do you expect the records to get to the DJs, Labels, Bloggers, Websites and Station Mixers? Those services cost money and as a business you should be expected to use some of your promotional budget doing those things. You may ask, "Well im signed, shouldnt the label be doing that", Not until your independent label starts the ball rolling. That 30K they gave you when you signed, was to start those efforts, not trick off with your friends at the stripclub. Once you have shown that you can "SELL" units, & you are a viable & marketbale BRAND, they will "Upstream" you to the Major label and restructure your deal.

I need artists to junderstand that this is a BUSINESS and when you get signed, thats just the start of the work. Stop expecting shit for free and GET TO WORK!!!
